100 people inline, printed rate plan info details

The wait in Seattle is getting serious with more than 100 people inline and still a few hours before the iPhone 3G goes on sale at 8am localtime. At 5am when the mall opened several people showed up at once, running the line out the mall parking lot, across the valet lot, and up to 7th avenue.

“That sucks!  The line is waaay the f*ck out there!!” yelled one over-excited and possibly drunk loiterer.

ATT representatives are handing out bottled waters and a fact sheet on the new rate plans for the iPhone 3G. All of us are having a collective case of sticker shock. An individual plan, the smallest they offer, with 450 daytime minutes AND NO TEXT MESSAGES is $69.99/month. This is the low end plan. Text messages are an additional $5 for 200, $20 for unlimited. You could easily spend $90 on service alone, and then there are the fees!! We’ve just started year 2 of a long 5 year arrangement.

Not everyone seems be aware of what is going on. “Isn’t this the line for Def Leopard tickets?” said one confused loiterer after glancing at the spec sheet.

“That show was cancelled, the drummer lost his other arm,” quipped a store employee as he disappeared back into the store.
